TyLisa C. Johnson

TyLisa C. Johnson is an award-winning journalist, author, poet, artist, speaker, and social media strategist based in St. Petersburg, Florida.

A published author since 16, TyLisa spent the last decade navigating the worlds of media, editorial, audience and product. As a reporter, she created an award-winning project about K-12 education in the COVID pandemic, and built a beat about America’s oldest library system — her stories about The Free Library contributed to local legislative action, including a funding increase for the library system and an accountability plan for its leader.

She has also spoken on an array of panels, podcasts and radio shows, including WESA 90.5, WHYY, CityCast Pittsburgh, the American Libraries Association, Florida A&M University, Poynter Institute and more.

She is a proud graduate of Florida A&M University’s school of journalism, where she graduated summa cum laude, and Wilmington Friends School, where she was named 2025 Young Alumna of the Year.
