The meme zine

I’ve been creating and publishing journalism memes for the Poynter Institute every Friday on Instagram since June 2024. Its been one of the most unexpected highlights of my career.

In that time, we’ve expanded our reach from a few thousand viewers to more than 2 million reached and more than 3 million views. Memes also live beyond Instagram now — on Facebook and LinkedIn, and in Poynter newsletter products. I’ve organized meme contests and even created meme-ish merch.

For me, the best part of the Poynter journalism memes is the community. They are fierce, passionate & always standing on business. The memes are a strategic tool for community building and engagement but they also inform, inspire and educate.
